Volleyball Physiotherapy FAQ
Do I need a scan for a volleyball injury?
Not always. Many volleyball injuries can be diagnosed accurately through a detailed physiotherapy assessment. In some cases, imaging such as an X-ray, ultrasound or MRI may be recommended, particularly if a fracture, ligament injury or significant instability is suspected. Our volleyball physiotherapists will guide you on whether a scan is necessary.
Can I keep training while injured?
Often, yes. One of the goals of volleyball physiotherapy is to keep athletes involved where safe. This may involve modifying jumping, hitting, gym loads or training intensity while symptoms settle. Complete rest is not always required.
What are the most common volleyball injuries?
The most common volleyball injuries include jumper’s knee (patellar tendinopathy), shoulder pain, ankle sprains, lower back pain, shin pain, finger injuries and overuse injuries related to jumping and training load.
Do you treat junior volleyball athletes?
Yes. Star Physio has worked with junior and youth volleyball athletes for over 25 years, including WA State Teams. We provide injury management, screening and injury-prevention programs for developing athletes.
What is volleyball screening?
Volleyball screening is an assessment designed to identify injury risks and performance limitations. It includes strength, flexibility and movement testing, training-load review and injury-prevention recommendations tailored to volleyball.
How long will recovery take?
Recovery depends on the injury, severity and training demands. Our goal is always to return athletes to volleyball as safely and quickly as possible while reducing the risk of recurrence.
Should I see a volleyball physiotherapist or a general physio?
Volleyball injuries are often load-related and sport-specific. A volleyball physiotherapist understands jumping loads, hitting mechanics, shoulder demands and return-to-play decisions. This often leads to more accurate diagnosis, better rehabilitation and faster return to volleyball.
