What is Pilates?

PilatesThe Pilates method is a set of principles and movements designed to target the body’s core of stability, located around the abdomen and lower back. With a combination of floor work on an exercise mat and a reformer for resistance training, Pilates aims to improve strength, flexibility, posture and coordination. Through constant practice, you’ll become more aware of your spine, learn proper breathing techniques and achieve stronger muscles. Because of its work on the torso, Pilates also provides an excellent source of relief for people suffering from back pain and is a popular solution for losing weight and changing body shapes.

Why Should I do Pilates at Star Physio?

PilatesUnfortunately, the Pilates industry is completely unregulated, which means that anyone can call themselves a Pilates instructor without any formal qualification.  Physiotherapists are well considered experts in the field of movement control, flexibility and core strength, and their undergraduate training is an excellent base for Pilates.  In addition to this, our Star Physio Clinical Pilates physios have post graduate training in the Pilates method.  In addition, if you are doing Pilates because of pain or injury, physiotherapists understand the cause and pathology of this and can modify your program to ensure that you get the best results.

We offer both small group training and one-on-one teaching for Pilates. Our experts will give you their personal attention and tailor every regimen to your current abilities, whether individually or as a group.
