Jai Hindley in the “Maglia Rosa”.
Jai Hindley wins Pink!
Perth’s Jai Hindley’s historic Giro D’Italia victory, and the winner’s “Maglia Rosa” or Pink Jersey, is a long journey with many people involved over many years. Having a father who was a former high level racer and continuing cycling tragic was a good start, and then being part of an extraordinary crop of junior talent including WA’s only Professional Female Road Cyclist Jess Allen and former pro Robert Power, there was plenty of talent to push him along.
Star Physio and their principal physiotherapist Damian Oldmeadow have been involved with cycling from junior to recreational to the best in the world for over 20 years including Australian and British Cycling Teams and many World and Olympic champion cyclists. With Jai it started with work with the Midland Cycling Club including injury prevention, strength and flexibility lectures at “Eagles Nest” at the top of Death Valley in Gidgegannup. This progressed through early bikefit as a junior, to strength and conditioning work, injury management and ongoing bikefit reviews over many years using the amazing technology from Gebiomized.
The Star Physio Team feel incredibly fortunate to have played a small part in seeing Jai put on the final Maglia Rosa in Rome this year as winner of the Giro D Italia!

Tara West Knows Best – the Side Plank with Isometric Clam
I love this exercise. Not only does it work the obliques (which are important for generating power with spiking and serving), but it also strengthens the shoulders, back and glutes too. Being strong through these muscle groups will not only help to reduce the risk of...
Tara West Knows Best – Volleyball Injuries
Studies have shown that volleyball players are at risk of a broad range of injuries with ankle sprains being the most common, accounting for up to half of all volleyball related injuries. Whilst often considered mild when compared with other injuries, ankle sprains...
Tara West Knows Best
Last week I had the privilege of visiting Rossmoyne High School (my old stomping grounds), where I spoke to the year 9s and 10s about the upcoming Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, and how to get the most out of their bodies during the week. We discussed recovery...
Brant Garvey 2014 World Championships Campaign
My 2014 World Championships campaign is done and dusted. Last year I finished the 6th above knee amputee across the line. The goal this year was to finish in the top 3. I just managed to tick that box by being the 3rd above knee amputee to cross the line. I finish the...
