WA and Australian Volleyball Physiotherapy

Aaron Tay with Australian Volleyball Athletes

Aaron Tay recently returned from the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships in Bendigo with the WA State Teams. Part of Star Physio’s work with State Volleyball includes a rigorous screening program. All state junior players undergo musculoskeletal screening to identify potential problems and review current and previous injuries. This helps our athletes arrive at the championships in the best possible shape. Screening has been a tremendously successful program with a dramatic reduction in the injuries seen in our players. This is achieved through prevention and early identification measures through evidence based sports physiotherapy.

Star Shoulder taping at Beach Volleyball Championships

Damian Oldmeadow travelled with first the WA State Junior Beach Volleyball Teams to the Australian Championships in Coolangatta. More recently he was appointed physiotherapist to the Australian Women’s’ Volleyball Team for the Asian Championships in Thailand. The team finished in the top 8 for the first time in 15 years.

This is an important step for the team as they begin a rebuilding phase in the lead up to the Brisbane Olympic Games in 2032. Damian commenced working with National Volleyball in 1997. He is a Life Member of both Volleyball WA and Volleyball Australia for his contributions to the sport.

The Star Physio Team have been sponsoring volleyball in WA for over 25 years, including our senior state teams The Perth Steel. We were very excited as they went on to win both the Men’s and Women’s Australian Volleyball Superleague titles this year. Congratulations!!

Elite and Professional Cycling

Jess lifting weights supervised by Steve Jeffries.

Star Physio has a long and proud association working with elite and professional cycling over the past 25 years. From sports physiotherapy injury treatment and management, to bikefit, we are trusted by many of the best cyclists in Western Australia and the World! The Star Physio Team have also conducted research into the effects of expert bikefit, in physios hands on pain and injury.

We were saddened, but also excited about Jessica Allen’s future after announcing her retirement from professional cycling this year. A former Australian and World Champion, she has raced the biggest road cycling events in the world over the last 10 years. Star are proud to have supported her with Sports Physiotherapy since her junior days. Our work with Jess has included injury treatment and advice, bikefit as well as commencing and managing her strength and conditioning program over many years by our expert Steve Jeffries. We are excited to learn more about her future roles in cycling!.

And what a year it has been for our long term mate Jai Hindley! Off the back of his incredible win in the Giro D’Italia in 2022, he followed with his first Tour De France race in 2023. Jai was a stage winner and Yellow Jersey holder in his first attempt at the biggest cycling race on the planet. Sadly his race was cruelled by an unfortunate crash, however he finished proudly, although battered!

It has been very special to catch up with Jai and his family in Perth and watch him in action at the “Boxing Day World Championship” Papa’s Ride!

You can book to see one of the Star Physio cycling experts here, or for a bikefit here!

Jai Hindley.

WA Hockey Sports Physiotherapy

Hockey WA Masters’ Medallists!

Locally, Star Physio were proud to support the Australian Masters Hockey Championships. We worked closely with the 55’s team also sponsored by Emergency Triage Services who supply emergency care for remote patients all over the world. Congratulations to this team of legends who brought home a silver medal after an incredibly close final.

Star Physio staff get great pleasure working with motivated “experienced athletes”! There is amazing new research and understanding of management of arthritis and chronic pain. We were previously fearful that exercise would do more damage to arthritic joints. Every day we see the results of older athletes who receive the right treatment and advice, and then put in the work in rehabilitation. Many return to playing high level sport, some after long breaks and being told they could never play again!
