Challenging Conditions & the Role of Soccer Physiotherapy

With hot and humid conditions placing increased stress on players, experienced soccer physiotherapy support was crucial in helping athletes maintain performance, recover effectively between games, and stay injury-free.

Star Physio’s Damian Oldmeadow, a physiotherapist experienced in soccer physiotherapy from his days working with AIS Soccer, travelled with the squad to provide hands-on care and athlete management.

Injury Management & Player Support

Throughout the tournament, Damian delivered targeted soccer physiotherapy treatment and injury management. Common issues included:

  • Ankle sprains
  • Knee pain ligament and patellofemoral joint pain
  • Grazes and bruises from falling on synthetic grass
  • A finger injury for the goalkeeper

A major focus of tournament soccer physiotherapy is keeping players hydrated and managing heat stress—both essential to performance and safety in Singapore’s tropical climate.
